A hometown hero banner was unveiled in Oyster Bay Saturday in honor of a World War II veteran.
Cpt. Dave Mattoli recently passed away at the age of 99. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, he was unable to receive military honors at his funeral - however, the U.S. Army agreed to perform the honors at the unveiling ceremony.
The banner will remain on display at the Theodore Roosevelt Park through Veterans Day.
Through this program, over 200 banners will be displayed on light posts throughout Oyster Bay.
