A Woodmere homeowner says he's fed up with being woken up by town of Hempstead landscaping crews who are using loud machinery in the early morning hours.
Nick Cavallo says leaf blowers and other equipment are being used to clean up municipal lots in his neighborhood. He says the work is being performed between 4 and 5 a.m.
"It wakes up everything-- your dog, your kid," he says.
Cavallo says he confronted the town of Hempstead workers and recorded the interaction. In it, he asks a worker to confirm the early morning time and the fact that it's a residential neighborhood.
Cavallo says he's been dealing with the racket for a year, but his neighbors say it's been a problem for decades. "It's a lot of noise," says neighbor Linda Antoville. "It's like a construction site right out your window."
Cavallo and Antoville say they've complained numerous times to the town without resolution.
The town's noise ordinance prohibits the use of lawn equipment that creates unreasonable noise before 7 a.m. and after 9 p.m. on any day.
News 12 called the town for comment. A spokesperson said, "Hempstead town has just received this video that purports to show employees working before normal business hours, which could disturb neighbors. The town is committed to being a good neighbor and will look into the matter and take any appropriate action."
