Suspects in an Inwood home invasion are on the loose Sunday after prompting a gunfight, which left a boy fighting for his life, with the homeowner.
Police say three armed men burst through the front door Saturday night of the home on West End Avenue and ordered the occupants to the floor. However, the suspects were unaware that the homeowner was getting his own gun. According to police, a gunfight ensued, leading to a 9-year-old boy being shot in the head and a 22-year-old man hit in the arm. The boy is in critical condition. The man is expected to make a full recovery
A trail of blood to Loretta Street leads authorities to believe at least one of the suspects, one of whom fled the home through a window, was injured. Police have asked hospitals to be on alert. Police are investigating whether the home invasion was random or targeted.
