A Hicksville Middle School student says he ate a cake in his home economics class that had a pin hidden inside.
Michael Assante, 14, says he swallowed the pin last Tuesday during class. Assante says his friend also took a bite of the cake and found a pin in his mouth.
?When Peter discovered that pin, I already had taken a bite of the cake and right when Peter found it, I got a little nervous [and] tried looking through [the cake],? Assante says. ?I accidentally swallowed it and I felt a poke at the back of my throat.?Assante says his teacher didn't care at all, even after he and his friend found two more pins in their cake.
Assante?s doctor has been tracking the pin every day with X-rays. The school district, police and the county health department are investigating the incident. At this point, no one is saying how or when the pins got into the cake.
The district does say that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken if someone is found to have put the pins in the cake on purpose.
