A Holbrook man was arrested Saturday night for allegedly boating while intoxicated.
Police say 54-year-old William Lindermann was drunk and was driving his boat without navigational lights shortly before 10 p.m.
They say he was heading right toward a police boat in the Great South Bay north of Fire Island's Ocean Bay Park before he was stopped. The crew of the police boat placed its engines into reverse to avoid a collision, officials say.
Two adult passengers were also aboard Lindermann's vessel.
Lindermann is being charged with boating while intoxicated. Crews towed the 25-foot center-console boat he was driving to the Marine Bureau Headquarters in Great River.
