Holbrook family says son's wheelchair was stolen
Someone stole a boy's wheelchair from outside his home in Holbrook, a family says.
Cody Vermilyea is a 10-year-old with lukodystrophy, which is a brain disease, cerebral palsy and a genetic disorder called Jacobson syndrome.
He's had his movement severely restricted since the theft because he can't walk very far without leg pain, according to his family.
His mother, Kathleen Vermilyea, says the thief also stole a debit card from her car.
She says it's not about the money or the cost of replacing the chair, but she's more upset about the principle behind the crime.
"It's obvious that it belongs to a child -- it's not an adult wheelchair," the mother says. "It's a little kid that needs it."
