A Holbrook wife will go under the knife next week to give her diabetic husband a kidney after his began to fail.
The Marinellis were married in 1999 and five years later adopted their three children. Recently, Michael Marinelli says he began to lose his 20-year battle with diabetes. He says he almost lost his feet due to gangrene before the damage moved up to his kidneys.
Andrea Marinelli says when the family received news of Michael?s kidney failure, they feared the worst. Andrea was then tested to be a kidney donor and she scored a perfect match, which is rare for someone who is not directly related to the patient.
Michael Marinelli says he's been a slave to his dialysis machine for the past several years. He says he?ll be glad to say goodbye to it. His wife says she?s excited to see the difference in her husband once he receives the kidney.
The Marinellis will both go into surgery at New York's Mount Sinai hospital Tuesday.
