Hoboken mayor voices concerns following ICE arrests in the city

For the first time, Hoboken has been targeted by agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Four people were arrested on Sunday afternoon.
The arrests took place at 1:30 p.m. at the 9th Street light rail station.
One of those arrests was recorded by a city councilman, during which a federal agent can be heard saying he doesn’t need a warrant to make the arrest.
That is concerning to Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour.
“One of the ICE agents actually said I don’t need a warrant. That’s not the country I live in and that’s not how Hoboken works,” said Mayor Jabbour. “Hoboken is a very diverse city. It’s part of why we love living here. It’s the richness of the culture of Hoboken. And to be targeted in this way, it’s terrifying for people."
ICE has not yet detailed charges for those taken into custody.
City officials say that at least one of those arrested is being held at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark.
Three of those detained work at Hoboken businesses.
ICE has not responded to requests for information on those taken into custody.
