Higher gas prices linger on LI as parts of US see lower cost per gallon

The price for a gallon of gasoline could soon dip below $3 in many parts of the nation, but Long Island motorists should not expect to see those enticing numbers here.
Gas retailers on Long Island are not seeing any decreases from distributors. Michael Watt, executive director of the Long Island Gas Retailers Association, says the price for fuel may actually go up here soon due to issues at a major Canadian refinery and several U.S. refineries cutting back on production.
"We just know that on Long Island, we don't expect to see any kind of significant decrease any time soon," says Watt.
According to AAA, the current national average price of gas is $3.35 a gallon.
