A group of Long Island high school basketball players put aside their rivalries for the seventh annual Alzheimer's All Star Basketball Classic at Bay Shore High School on Sunday.
NBA draftee and Long Island resident Gordon Thomas started the event after watching his father suffer from Alzheimer's disease.
Thomas says before the players hit the hardwood, they attended a lecture about the disease.
"They get a presentation of what Alzheimer's is all about. They wear equipment that simulates what an Alzheimer's patient goes through on a daily basis. It's called a virtual dementia tour. It's a mind blowing experience to them," he says.
