The parking garage at the Long Island Rail Road station in Hicksville was shut down until further notice Tuesday.
Town of Oyster Bay officials say there may be structural problems with the building. A crack in a T-beam was discovered Monday, and officials say the beam has shifted lower.
The public is not being allowed in the garage, so town workers have to find and retrieve commuter?s cars when they arrive at the station after their evening commutes. While there are 1,400 cars in the entire garage, only 120 parking spots are in the zone affected by the cracked beam, officials say.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto says commuters suffered only minor delays getting home. Commuters can use the Broadway Mall parking lot until further notice.
