Hempstead winding down Lighthouse hearings

The Town of Hempstead will hold its last zoning hearing Tuesday before it makes a final decision on the $4 billion Lighthouse project. The development would consist of condos, offices, shops, restaurants and a hotel on 150 acres of county land surrounding Nassau Coliseum.
The meeting, taking place at Hofstra University, is open to the public. It?s expected that one of the biggest issues discussed will be whether the project is too big for the area.
Town Supervisor Kate Murray says the town won?t be rushed into a decision. However, New York Islanders? owner Charles Wang says he wants the OK by Oct. 3 or he?ll explore options for moving the team.
