Hempstead School District officials on Tuesday touted a proposed 2016-17 budget that includes a 0.1 percent school tax levy increase and cuts on transportation and teachers.
While the proposal is light on specifics, district officials say the cuts to teaching staff will not affect the quality of education for students. Officials did not specify how many teachers would lose their jobs or in which schools the cuts would occur.
Some residents say the district needs more funding to provide additional resources for its influx of students.
The proposed budget is posted on the district's website. Residents can vote on the budget next Tuesday.
