Students say the Hempstead School District has failed to fix problems with heating systems in its schools weeks after promising to do so.
Last month, News 12 Long Island reported about problems with the heat at the high school, and school officials said they would wait for the Christmas break to fix them. They say it was fixed, but no one from the administration would say why there are still so many problems.
District officials say two classrooms and an office at Fulton Avenue Elementary had no heat because of a bad blower. Parents of Ludlam Elementary students were told to dress their children warmly because the heat was faltering there too.
Hempstead High School student Andiea Gray says it?s too cold to take her coat off in some parts of the building. Some parents say their children are coming home from school sick because of the temperatures in the school buildings. Hempstead High School delayed its opening for two hours Friday because the heat was on the fritz.
