Hempstead school board OKs temporary class space following lightning strike

Nearly 600 kindergarten and pre-K students in Hempstead will have a place to go after their school was hit by lightning.
The Hempstead school board decided Monday night to lease the former St. Catherine of Sienna School in Franklin Square, according to Newsday.
Classes are tentatively expected to start there on September 17. The district starts September 5.
As News 12 reported, The Prospect School was struck by lightning and the building was badly damaged.
Repairs are expected to take until March.
