A Hempstead man was found guilty of manslaughter in a fatal machete attack on a 17-year-old.
David Sadler was found guilty this afternoon of first-degree manslaughter in the death of Terrence Grier Jr. two years ago. He was acquitted of the top charge of second-degree murder.
Sadler cried after the verdict was read, but later said they were tears of joy.
Prosecutors had charged that Sadler attacked Grier for revenge after losing money in a street dice game. Sadler's defense lawyers said he killed Grier in self-defense.
?Grier's mother said she was disappointed in the verdict.
"It's been over a year, we've been waiting for this for a long time. I'm just lost for words right now," said Greta Price.
"I don't feel like a grown man, with a machete, with all his might ... who could chop a 17-year-old in the neck, and not mean to kill him?" she added.
Sadler now faces five to 25 years in prison. He would have faced 25 years to life if convicted of second-degree murder.
