The town of Hempstead is taking a stand against congestion pricing in New York City before it starts on June 30.
Hempstead is the first township on Long Island to file a federal lawsuit against the plan. Congestion pricing will charge drivers at least $15 to travel below 60th Street in Manhattan.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin calls it an unfair money grab that will ultimately hurt Long Islanders more than it helps.
"I really struggle trying to understand why some people do not support improving transportation on Long Island," said Long Island Rail Road President Rob Free. "Long Island needs a safe, reliable transportation system and this funding will be critical to further improve our system."
