A helicopter crashed at Long Island MacArthur Airport, according to the Town of Islip.
The town, which runs the airport, says the incident occurred at around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. A teacher and pilot were inside the small R22 helicopter, hovering 1-2 feet off the ground, when it crashed between two runways on the field, officials say.
One person was taken to the hospital with a possible head injury.
News 12 is told that the helicopter was leaking fuel at the crash site. A hazardous materials team was called in to clean up the airport.
No flights were affected by the crash.
