Health experts are bracing for the potential of a second round of the flu and they say children are the most at risk.
Spikes in the flu hit children and seniors the highest, according to recent data.
The same goes for hospitalizations.
The CDC says people under the age of 18 have the highest weekly hospitalization rate in more than 15 years.
The agency also reports 32 children have died from the flu this season – 90% of them were not vaccinated.
"Children, especially under the age of 2, they're pretty small, and when they're still small, you get something that's just so inflammatory like influenza, when it gets into your lungs, it causes a lot of inflammation,” says Dr. Frank Esper, from Cleveland Clinic Children's.
The best protection for children six months and older, and adults, is a flu shot, doctors say.
