Track work near Hicksville will cause all Long Island Rail Road branches to be on a special schedule this weekend, possibly creating a headache for runners and spectators of the New York City Marathon.
Subway service on several lines will also be changed for the weekend.
Transportation advocates say the decision by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to do work on the weekend of the marathon is ridiculous.
“The railroad should provide adequate service,” says Passengers United President Charlton D’Souza. “In fact, there should actually be more service on Marathon Sunday to accommodate all the runners going in the morning and then coming back in the evening from the city.”
Transportation advocates recommend leaving extra early and checking the PDF special schedules opposed to the apps because they say the apps are not always accurate.
