Hate-filled letters containing drawings of swastikas were sent to at least nine homes in the Roslyn area, Nassau police said Wednesday.Seven of the nine recipients are Jewish, police said, and they expect more letters to be received soon. The recipients live in Roslyn, Roslyn Heights, East Hills and Flower Hill.Inside the envelopes was a photocopy of an article about a hate crime that took place in September. The word "swastika" was highlighted in the article and pictures of swastikas were drawn on the paper with pink ink, police said. In the previous incident, two men were arrested for allegedly spray painting Nazi symbols and messages at Roslyn schools, a home and a synagogue. Police believe the letters were sent out to a randomly selected group. Officials did note, however, that some appeared to be sent through the mail while others were hand delivered. For forensic purposes, anyone who receives a letter is asked to handle it as little as possible and to contact police immediately. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
