Long Islanders in North Lindenhurst got the opportunity to learn about operating a ham radio on Sunday.
Ham radio operators held their annual Field Day over the weekend outside Babylon Town Hall.
At the event, amateur radio operators demonstrated how they use their specialized two-way radio equipment to contact thousands of other operators in the U.S., Canada and around the world.
Operators can relay messages to each other even without electricity during emergency situations.
Participants at the event also were able to learn about voice transmission, digital messaging and Morse code.
