? A Haitian man is on Long Island for surgery that could help him walk again.
Erioth Beauge, 45, says he was shot last week when two men tried to abduct him. The bullet is lodged in his spine and could paralyze him for the rest of his life if it isn?t removed. Beauge?s family has asked Nassau University Medical Center for help since Haiti doesn?t have the medical technology to perform the surgery.
?We are very happy that he is here and he will get the care that he needs,? says Beauge?s cousin, Susan Aristilde. ?Because I have high confidence in the medical team at NUMC.?
Out of nearly 200 countries, Haiti?s health care system is ranked 138th.
