Guardsmen given hero's welcome in Westhampton

Members of the 106th Air Rescue Wing received a hero?s welcome home in Westhampton Beach Friday after three months in Afghanistan. The unit is credited with saving the lives of more than 100 individuals.

Members of the 106th Air Rescue Wing received a hero?s welcome home in Westhampton Beach Friday after three months in Afghanistan.
The unit is credited with saving the lives of more than 100 individuals. While in Afghanistan, they were tasked with recovering the severely injured from the battlefield and taking them to more sophisticated medical facilities.
Family members gathered and waved flags as the C-17 plane carrying their loved ones arrived. The 27 guardsmen will be home with their families on Long Island for an average of 22 months.
Members of the unit said they?re grateful for any time they get to spend with their families.
