A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for the building of a new Lowe's in Yorktown.
Officials say the construction of the 124,000-square-foot store on the new property is set to begin next week.
Developers originally wanted to build a Costco in the area, but after intense opposition from the community, they settled on the home improvement store.
"You should have seen this area prior, It was just a one-horse town. Now it's moving forward," says resident Anthony Grasso.
The project will also include the construction of two new restaurants and a bank.
The Town of Yorktown is expected to deliver the property to Lowe's by July 2018, with the store expected to open by the end of next year.
