A new red-light camera program is coming to the Hudson Valley.

On Wednesday, Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation that will extend existing red-light camera programs across New York. It's also giving the green light for one of these programs to be used in the Town of Greenburgh.

Those cameras will be placed at the corner of Ardsley and Old Army roads, as well as the intersection of East Hartsdale Avenue and Rockledge Road.

"Just the fact that people will know they are going to be ticketed if they cross a red light, I think it will encourage people to drive more carefully," says Town of Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner.

Feiner hopes that is especially the case in East Hartsdale. That is where Stephanie Kavourias was hit and killed by a driver last year. That driver was under the influence of drugs. The tragedy sparked a major push to make the roads safer in any way possible.

"I want the word out that this going to be a heavily ticketed area, if people violate the law. I'm not looking to raise money, I am looking to make motorists more careful," Feiner explained.

Feiner tells News 12 the red-light cameras will be installed within the next couple of months.
