Gov. Kathy Hochul got a first-hand look at the damage in Stony Brook Tuesday, visiting Mill Pond where just a week ago, a dam collapsed, causing severe damage to the surrounding areas.
She says she expects the total damage to exceed what is needed to apply for more federal funding and stressed the need to build back not just quickly, but in a way to guard against future storms.
Gov. Hochul also added that grant money is available for households that earn 100% of the area median income, which is $254,000 or less.
Those who qualify can apply for $115,000 in grant money to start the clean up.
