Gov. Cuomo: Snow could close Long Island highways
Today's snowstorm could create a mess on local roads and Gov. Andrew Cuomo is warning Long Islanders that major highways could be shut down if the snow gets too hazardous.
"Closing those roads is a difficult decision, because you create a hardship either way. If you leave it open and people get stuck on the road, that's a problem. If you close the road and now have hundreds of thousands of people now potentially can't get home, that's a problem. That's why the advanced warning is called for here," says Cuomo.
Highways that could be affected include the Long Island Expressway and the Northern and Southern State parkways.
Cuomo says he will activate the State Emergency Operations Center at 10 a.m. on Thursday to monitor the storm.
