Gov. Andrew Cuomo led a so-called Blue Wave rally on the Island Sunday, where he and other leaders called on voters to elect Democrats in the November election.

During the Holtsville rally, Cuomo sought to underscore the importance of the upcoming midterm elections.

Many speakers, including the governor, spoke about issues that appeal to Democrats, including gay marriage, gun control and immigration.

“The only way America loses is if it defeats itself. The way it defeats itself is by making our diversity our weakness, rather than our strength, and that's exactly what they're trying to do,” said Cuomo.

Republican Rep. Peter King says that on most immigration bills, he supports what the Democrats want to do, but he doesn't agree with their strategies.

King says that Republicans don't have any combined campaign events in the works, but he doesn't believe they need it to battle the Democrats.

“There's nothing positive coming from the Democrats. It's mainly anti-Trump, anti-Republican, and they are hoping that that's going to get them across. And I think that people certainly on Long Island, are too smart for that,” says King.
