Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a $30 million plan to fortify the shoreline near the historic Montauk Point Lighthouse.
Erosion is threatening to destroy the lighthouse, which was commissioned by George Washington and built in 1796.
Work on the two-year project is set to begin this spring.
