Republican officials, members of the Suffolk County Legislature and several town supervisors have expressed outrage with Gov. Kathy Hochul's plans to address the state's housing crisis.
They argue that her plans to build affordable housing throughout New York, particularly on Long Island, is an "abuse of power" and deny local elected officials the power to make their own housing policy decisions.
Hochul responded by blaming local zoning laws for a lack of affordable housing in the state.
