A Long Island Girl Scout troop honored the memory of Thomas Valva with a special collection drive on Sunday.
Troop 3805 was stationed at the Staples on Nesconset Highway in Stony Brook. They were asking people to donate gift cards, non-perishable foods, snacks and juice boxes for children, as well as kids' art supplies.
The donations will be split between Island Harvest, the Bethany House and Thomas Valva's family.
The collection ran through 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
As News 12 has reported, 8-year-old Thomas Valva died of hypothermia after allegedly being forced to sleep in a freezing garage. His father and father's fiancee are charged with second-degree murder in the case.
