Drivers using fake or covered license plates to avoid tolls are being targeted in a statewide crackdown led by the MTA and law enforcement.
Transportation officials and police highlighted the results of 100 operations aimed at removing so-called ghost cars, which are often unregistered, uninsured, or stolen.
Local departments including Clarkstown and Westchester County police are part of the joint enforcement effort.
Officials say some cases have involved firearms and narcotics.
So far this year, more than $11 million in tolls and fees have gone unpaid.
Authorities say these operations will continue to improve safety and hold drivers accountable.
