Former Long Island Rep. George Santos says he is leaving the Republican Party to become an Independent.

Santos posted on social media Friday that he can no longer be affiliated with the GOP after legislator in Congress passed a new spending measure.

Santos was expelled from Congress in December and is facing federal charges over allegations of fraud and identity theft.

He is planning to challenge Long Island Rep. Nick LaLota for another shot at Congress.
