A fire stole 36 years of memories from a Garden City family Wednesday just minutes after the owners left their home.
Relatives say a fire broke out about 20 minutes after Georgia and Louis Vlogianitis left home for dinner. According to fire officials, neighbors near the Lincoln Street house called 911 after the street filled with smoke. The Garden City fire chief says the flames reached 30 feet in the air and the Vlogianitis family, who lived in the now-charred home for nearly four decades, lost everything.
Firefighters from at least four departments arrived on the scene. Two of those men were treated for smoke inhalation and fatigue at the hospital.
