A funeral was held Thursday morning for family and friends to say a final farewell to a 19-year-old EMT who died earlier this week.

Susan Giovanniello died of a medical emergency Monday after her volunteer EMS shift. The Nassau County fire marshal has deemed her death nonsuspicious.

Giovanniello had been volunteering with Glen Cove since she was in high school and was part of the explorer program.

"She came to my explorer post one day and she joined, she was so kind and loving, she was the ideal little explorer," says Selena Guastella, of the Glen Cove Police Department. "She was definitely a special, sweet girl, she will be missed."

The funeral took place at Saint Rocco's Church in Glen Cove.
