There was a large send-off Thursday for a beloved teacher who made a huge impact on the Farmingdale community.
Friends, family, students and staff at Farmingdale High School gave a final farewell to Gina Pellattiere.
The amount of mourners overwhelmed the Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Many resorted to standing on the entrance pavilion where speakers were set up.
“A beautiful, beautiful soul," shared family friend Janet Stanton.
In the weeks since her death, the community has shown support for the beloved band director by doing things like wearing green and acts of kindness. Students told News 12 that's the way "Miss P" lived her life.
"My freshman year, she showed me to my classes and around the building," said Jaden Dason.
Many mourners were former students who returned to say a last thank you to the woman who they credited with molding them into the people they are today.
"She was just full of life and energy and love, and I did wind up going to school for music at Hofstra, she did inspire me to go there," said Richard Cheek, who graduated from Farmingdale High School in 2009.
Pellettiere was laid to rest at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
