Today marks the start of the final week of the New York Legislature's session.

Many of the most intense discussions are revolving around the future of LIPA. While the Assembly has agreed on the parameters of a LIPA takeover, the Senate has yet to come to a conclusion on the matter. Legislators say they want to make sure that whoever takes over control of the utility does a better job than LIPA has in the past.

Today, state lawmakers restored $90 million in funding for the developmentally disabled that Gov. Cuomo had cut to nonprofit agencies. Long Beach Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg led the fight to restore the funds. He has a disabled son.

Private casinos, tax-free zones for businesses and changes to abortion laws are also on the agenda.
