Full-day pre-K is now available for hundreds more young students in Brentwood.
The school district, which previously held a lottery to fill spots in its pre-K program, announced Tuesday that it will be expanding the program next month.
Brentwood received a $10 million grant from the state Education Department, allowing hundreds of students to attend pre-K at no cost to their parents.
Educators have been pushing for universal pre-K for all 4-year-olds, maintaining they have a better grasp of school concepts by the time they reach kindergarten.
The district said it will still take additional names for a wait list.
According to the state Education Department, nearly half of Long Island's school districts provide some form of pre-K.
