Fuel spill shuts down eastbound LIE at exit 53

Police say a car sideswiped a utility truck this morning and the fuel tank on that truck ruptured.

The eastbound side of the Long Island Expressway is closed at exit 53 due to a fuel spill.
Police say a car sideswiped a utility truck this morning and the fuel tank on that truck ruptured.
About 55 gallons of fuel leaked out.
The Department of Environmental Conservation is on the scene to clean the spill - which has been contained.
News 12 has been told part of the LIE is expected to be closed for most of the day.
