A community is in mourning after the owner of a frozen ice business was crushed to death at his store Friday morning.
Police say Alfredo Thiebaud, owner of Delicioso Coco Helado, was killed when the security gate to his store came down on his chest at around 6 a.m.
John and Joe, friends of Thiebaud who served as his garbagemen for the past decade, say they are in anguish over the loss. They attended his memorial Saturday morning.
Families from all over the borough also attended the memorial to remember Thiebaud before his funeral Monday.
Residents call the shop opened by Thiebaud in 1978 a staple of their community. They say they hope to see the business live on through Thiebaud's great-grandchildren.
There will be free funeral transportation from Thiebaud's business on St. Ann's Avenue to Schuyler Hill Funeral Home on Monday.
