The cold weather and freezing temperatures caused water woes in Mineola and East Meadow Friday morning.
Mineola Village officials say a water main broke around 3 a.m. on Main Street near the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train station. The water on the road quickly turned to ice, so sanders and salters were called in to clean up the area. Village officials say this is the third water main break in just the past two weeks.
In East Meadow, another water main broke causing some morning traffic delays. Water officials say the freezing temperatures are to blame for both water main breaks. Meanwhile, water has been restored to most of Main Street in Mineola. Officials don?t expect the evening rush hour to be affected by the break.
