A Freeport family hit with two unexpected deaths over the past month is struggling to arrange a fitting funeral for their 12-year-old daughter who suddenly collapsed and died.
As News 12 Long Island has reported, Camille Scott died after collapsing at John W. Dodd Middle School last Thursday.
This is the second death the Robb family has had in less than a month. Their grandmother passed away around Thanksgiving.
Funeral costs are mounting quickly as the Robbs wait for relatives to arrive from Jamaica. They are now facing a bill of $15,000.
Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick has arranged for donations for the girl's funeral to be accepted at his office and the police department, which is open 24 hours a day. People can also drop off donations at the Freeport Recreation Center or any school.
"I know Freeport will come to the rescue because that family needs to know that that little girl belongs to all of us," Hardwick says.
Hardwick has raised about $3,000 so far and hopes to collect more.
Camille Scott is expected to be laid to rest Jan. 7. Her family is still awaiting autopsy results to find out the cause of death.
