A foundation is in search of a veteran to inhabit a brand-new home that is coming together in Brookhaven.
The Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation's foundation bought the home and is now looking for a local Purple Heart recipient who is in need to donate it to.
Vietnam veteran Joe Cognitore says he knows what it is like to return home from serving and feel forgotten. That's why he and his Rocky Point VFW Post want to get the word out about the home.
Dozens of contractors, designers and donors have helped the house come together.
"It makes me feel very great, I love doing things for other people, especially things like this. It just gives you that warm feeling," says electrician Gabe Lissy.
Tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of furnishings were donated also. This includes couches, lamps, beds and more.
The home is expected to be completed by New Year's Day.
