Bankrupt retailer Fortunoff agreed Wednesday to fulfill pre-paid furniture orders that have not been delivered to customers after the company canceled the deliveries last week.
?This is like the Bernie Madoff of patio furniture,? Peter Demidovich, of Melville, says.
Demidovich says he bought a $3,100 patio set from Fortunoff?s Outdoor Living Store in Melville last year and planned to have it delivered to his home this week. The store told him last week the furniture would not be delivered. He says the item is currently in stock.
Angry customers placed calls to county and state officials after they were told by Fortunoff they would not receive the furniture they ordered and paid for. Attorney General Andrew Cuomo intervened on behalf of the customers.
According to Cuomo, if a customer paid for the furniture in full and the item is currently in stock, Fortunoff will deliver the order. That means some customers are still out of luck. If the furniture is not in stock, or has not been fully paid for, customers must file as a creditor though the bankruptcy court.
Fortunoff attorneys did not return News 12 Long Island?s calls for comment.
