Former Vice President Kamala Harris is throwing her support behind Zohran Mamdani in the New York City mayoral race.
Speaking to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Monday, Harris said as the Democratic nominee, Mamdani should be supported.
When asked if that meant she was endorsing his candidacy, Harris said “I support the Democrat in the race, sure.”
The endorsement could put pressure on other Democratic leaders.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer have declined to say whether they will back Mamdani before the November general election.
