A former Suffolk County police officer accused of participating in a prostitution ring is facing new charges.

George Trimigliozzi now faces charges including sex abuse, rape and unlawful imprisonment.

Prosecutors allege the crimes happened in 2021 and 2022.

Prosecutors allege the crimes happened to two women he met on a dating app in 2021 and 2022.

Crime Victims Center Executive Director Laura Ahearn says the community definitely can be surprised when an official, like a police officer, allegedly betrays public trust.

"Sexual predators and those who will exploit our most vulnerable are right under our noses,” she said. "A person who can exploit another person is someone who will work on violating boundaries.”

She says it’s an important reminder for people to exercise caution when meeting someone in person that was first met online.

"Make sure you're vetting those individuals. Meet in public places,” she said.

As News 12 has reported, Trimigliozzi and three others, including an Islip High School teacher, were charged last year with promoting prostitution in Suffolk County.

Prosecutors say the four operated the prostitution business out of a strip mall in Holbrook.

The Suffolk DA says Trimigiliozzi was with the police department for 18 years. He is currently suspended without pay.

He has pleaded not guilty.
