News 12 has learned former Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota has been disbarred.

The New York Supreme Court decision now forbids Spota from practicing law, giving legal opinion or presenting himself as an attorney.

The action was expected after he was convicted of helping orchestrate the cover-up of the beating of a suspect in police custody.

Spota practiced law for half a century.
