In a new lawsuit, a former police officer alleges that political corruption in the Town of Southold led to his firing in May.
Garrett Lake says he was wrongfully fired due to political pressure placed on the town by two men he arrested.
Lake says the two men, Steven Romeo, who drove the pickup truck involved in a deadly Cutchogue limo crash, and Jamesport Fire Chief David McKillop, are politically connected. Both arrests involved alleged DWI offenses.
The lawsuit claims that Lake's firing occurred because he refused to give either of them special treatment.
