Longtime News 12 anchor Carol Silva was honored Tuesday with the Fair Media Council's Lifetime Achievement Award at the Folio Awards.
Silva spent more than three decades at News 12 and 44 years overall on the air, where she became a name synonymous with news on Long Island.
She was presented the award by former co-anchor Elizabeth Hashagen.Silva opened her speech by saying, "What a crazy year!" -- putting it lightly after she announced just days ago that she was cancer-free. She had shared on social media last year that she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
She said to the virtual audience that she graciously accepts the award after "graduating" from the anchor desk. She says what's next for her is to "grow her soul" so she can do good for more people.
"Thank you for being there with me ... where we tried to tell the story of Long Island, and thank you for being a part of my story," she said.
